Tete-a-tete with Mukhpreet Khurana

The team of Bookpreneur recently got me a chance to interview the author of Unlocked Silences, Mukhpreet Khurana as a part of their Unlocked Silences digital Book Tour. I hope you enjoy reading the answers as much as I did:

  1. What/Who inspired you to write the book? Are they different inspirations behind every single poem in it?

Unlocked Silences is inspired by companionship in its true, selfless sense. It is inspired by companionship that is beyond judgement, assumption and discouraging criticism.

2. Do you have an audience in mind when you write?

I believe there is no specific audience for Unlocked Silences. I have been fortunate enough to have a reading audience from all demographic classifications. I believe anyone and everyone who read, reflect and connect with the book are an audience later, are family first.

3. Do you follow a writing ritual?

I do not have a specific ritual as such. I do make sure I have a cup of coffee on my table as I write. The coffee sometimes, well, most of the times, goes cold, but the writing does not stop. I do keep journals for scribbles and spontaneous flows of thought.

4. Your favourite contemporary poet.

I do not have any favourites, as such. I believe we are all beautifully different in our own existence. I am more of being open to learning and growing from all dimensions and aspects life holds in store.

5. What is your message for aspiring poets who are scared to expose themselves to the world?

No one is a wanna-be poet. We are all poets of our lives that eventually turns out to be poetry, sooner or later. All I can ever say to my fellow writers who have been away from the light and acknowledgement, is that life is short and if you were to do something for yourself, no matter how unsure you are, take a deep breath and take that one leap of faith for yourself. Jump in with both feet and let your writing breathe in open air.

About the Book

Unlocked Silences is a collection of abstracts, poems and excerpts written on tissue papers over a couple of years. It is a dive deep into the circles of emotion, empathy, acceptance, healing and insights into a different perspective towards life. In the voice of a budding adolescent, the book cascades into day-to day-shortcomings, carved into poetry and at the same time, embraces you in silence and stillness of thought. The book is an attempt to connect with the reader, to reflect upon them, unbiased and together and embrace a new beginning. With simplified use of grammar and vocabulary, this book seeks nothing but the companionship of all. With this debut book, the author aims to connect to one and to all in the message and purpose of existence, the aid of spirituality and an ode to a beautiful journey called life.
